Deep tissue or Swedish: which massage to book

People often book deep tissue because it sounds more serious, and then spend an hour tensing against it. It is not the harder-working option — it is a different one.

Book Swedish if you want to sleep better, feel generally wrung out, or have not had a massage before. It works broadly, at a lighter pressure, over the whole body.

Book deep tissue if you have a specific complaint you can point to: a shoulder that will not release, tight hip flexors from cycling, or a stiff neck from a desk. It goes slower, sits on smaller areas, and can leave you sore for a day.

If you are unsure, book sixty minutes of Swedish and tell the therapist where the trouble is. They will spend longer there and adjust the pressure as they go — that is the point of the consultation at the start.
